Serum Apelin-12 Concentration in Saudi Obese Middle-Aged Men
نویسنده
چکیده
Apelin-12 is one of the most potent forms of apelin, an adipocytokine that might contribute to the decrease in body weight. The aim of this project was to compare the level of serum apelin-12 in obese and nonobese middle-aged men and to assess the relationship of serum apelin-12 concentration with anthropometric parameters and lipid profile. In this cross-sectional study, 150 obese men (body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30kg/m) of age range between 35-56 years were selected. For the purpose of comparison, 140 non-obese age-matched men (BMI ≤ 25kg/m) were chosen as a control group. Anthropometric parameters were measured and peripheral blood samples were obtained for biochemical assays. Serum apelin levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The data showed that serum apelin-12 levels were not significantly (P=0.48) different between the obese and the non-obese men. The serum apelin-12 levels did not correlate with the anthropometric parameters and the lipid profile in the two groups. The finding of this research suggests that serum apelin-12 concentration is not involved in the pathological mechanism of obesity in middle-aged men. [Rowyda Nawwaf Al-Harithy. The effect of concurrent training on apelin, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary men
Abstract Background and Aim: Among the wide range of adipokines, aplein has recently been considered by researchers due to association with body composition indices such as fat percentage and inflammatory markers. The aim of this study, was to investigate the effect of concurrent training (aerobic and strength) on apelin, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary obese m...

Introduction: Vaspin is a new adipokine which is a member of serine protease inhibitor family and might improve insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of concurrent training (aerobic and resistance) on vaspin, and C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary obese men. Materials and Methods: 20 sedentary obese men (age: 50.7 ± 2.1 years, the percent of bo...

Objective(s)Apelin is novel adipokine acting on APJ receptor, regulated by insulin and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha). Plasma apelin levels are increased in obese subjects. The aim of this study was to investigate whether or not the aerobic exercise modifies the elevated plasma apelin levels in obese women.Materials and MethodsTwenty obese women (BMI 32.2 ± 6.4 kg/m2) were selected by ...
متن کاملاثر تمرین مقاومتی غیرخطی و هوازی تناوبی بر سطح سرمی اپلین و مقاومت به انسولین در مردان چاق میانسال
Background: Apelin is an adipokine which may contribute to the link between obesity and metabolic diseases. Regular exercise training has been proposed as a strategy for reducing the risk of these diseases by positive adaptations in adipokines, but there is limited research directly comparing different types of training. The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the effects of nonl...
متن کاملThe Association of Daily Physical Activity and Apelin Gene Expression and Serum Concentration in Omental and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissues of Obese and Morbid Obese Adults
Introduction: Adipose tissue affects body hemostasis by secreting a variety of proteins named adipokines. Plasma levels of apelin decreases after exercise; however, the evidence on gene regulation in adipocytes is rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of daily physical activity and applein gene expression and its serum levels in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues...
